Charles Lutwidge Dodgson better known by the pen name Lewis Carrol was an English author, mathematician, logician, Anglican deacon and photographer. The son of a clergyman and the firstborn of 11 children, Carrol
began at an early age to entertain himself and his family with magic tricks, marionette shows, and poems written for homemade newspapers. From 1846 to 1850 he attended Rugby School; he graduated from Christ Church College, Oxford, in 1854.
His most famous writings are Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel Through the Looking-Glass as well as the poems “The Hunting of the Snark” and “Jabberwocky”,

The 2008 Caldecott Medal, awarded to the illustrator of the most distinguished picture book for children was given to Brian Selznick author of The Invention of Hugo Cabret
The 2008 Newberry Medal, awarded for the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children was given to Laura Amy Schlitz the author of Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! Voices From a Medieval Village.

Celebrate the ten-year anniversary of the Schaumburg Township District Library building. Children through age 12 may register for the Winter Reading Program, Celebrate Your Library, at the Youth Services Information Desk or the Hoffman Estates or Hanover Park branches.
Readers must read 10 books, and non-readers must have 20 books read to them. Prizes will be distributed through Feb. 29. We reserve the right to substitute incentives. For more information, call the Youth Services Information Desk at (847) 923-3439.
